Does Coastal Pathology bulk bill any patients?

Our policy is to bulk bill all outpatient referrals from general practitioners and specialists (for Medicare card holders).

What about inpatients?

Inpatients are subject to a mixed billing regime (mixture of schedule (no-gap) and private fee). Referring clinicians are able to indicate to us the recommended bill level.

What about Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) gold card holders?

All such patients have their accounts directly billed to DVA.

I recently had a medical procedure at a private hospital and/or day surgery, and have now received a bill from Coastal Pathology. What is this bill for?

During your admission, a specimen(s) was referred to Coastal Pathology by your doctor for testing and diagnosis, and a report was sent back to your doctor, to assist in care. This invoice you have received is for the professional service rendered by a Medical Specialist (pathologist) at Coastal Pathology.

Is this bill covered by Medicare and or my health fund?

Some or all of the remainder (the “gap”) can be claimed from your private health fund. The portion of any gap not paid by your private health fund (if any) is payable by you.

I have had inpatient pathology tests before, but never received a bill. Why is this not the case with Coastal Pathology?

If you have received an account from us, your health fund is one of the few that has not entered into an agreement with Coastal Pathology enabling us to direct bill your invoice to them on your behalf.

I seem to recall paying all accounts on discharge. Why does this invoice still apply to me?

Please note that our fee is unrelated to any other fees payable in relation to your procedure eg hospital charges, surgeon fees, endoscopist fees, anaesthetic fees, etc, and is not covered by any payments you may have made on the day of the procedure.

How can I pay this account?

Credit cards (VISA, Mastercard), using the tear-off section of your invoice mail to 139 King St Buderim 4556.
